Multipotentmesenchymalstromalcells,alsoknownasmesenchymalstemcells(MSC),areawell-characterizedpopulationofadultstemcells.Theyhavethepotentialtodevelopintomaturecellsthatproducefat,cartilage,bone,tendons,andmuscle[1].Theseproperties,incombinationwiththeirdevelopmentalplasticity,havegeneratedtremendousinterestbecauseofthepotentialuseofMSCinregenerativemedicinetoreplacedamagedtissues.MSCculturedwithoutseruminthepresenceoftransformationgrowthfactorswilldifferentiateintochondrocytes.Incontrast,MSCculturedinserumwithascorbicacidanddexamethasonewilldifferentiateintoosteoblasts.MSChavethecapABIlityforrenewalanddifferentiationintovariouslineagesofmesenchymaltissues.MSCderivedfromtheamnionandchorionexpressCD271[2],possesscharacteristicsofcardiomyocytes[3],andhavevariousantiangiogenicandanti-inflammatoryproteins.
